Are the Farrow & Ball colours really better or can I buy the shades more cheaply in the colours at a DIY store?

Farrow & Ball paints - the environmentally friendly water-based paints
Are Farrow & Ball paints environmentally, child and animal friendly? Do freshly painted rooms air out for a long time?

Estate Emulsion
Estate Emulsion is a high-quality matt wall and ceiling paint for interior use. It gives walls the powdery finish typical of Farrow& Ball with a unique depth of colour. For use anywhere in the home, for ceilings and walls.
The traditional water-based formulation contains more pigments per can than any other emulsion. Estate Emulsion has a minimal VOC content and is therefore particularly environmentally friendly. The emulsion is also easy to wipe off.
For high usage areas such as kitchens and bathrooms, Farrow & Ball Modern Emulsion should be considered.

Modern Emulsion
Modern Emulsion is the abrasion-resistant wall paint from Farrow & Ball with 7% gloss for heavy-duty interior use. For walls that require cleaning from time to time, e.g. in kitchens, bathrooms, corridors, children's rooms and other heavily used areas. For use on interior plaster, panelled walls and ceilings. Fully washable. Water-based.

Estate Eggshell
Estate Eggshell is a silky matt, extremely robust and durable water-based paint for interior use. It is ideal for all interior wood and metal surfaces, including radiators. It provides a robust, washable and easy-to-clean surface. It is an ideal complement to Estate Emulsion or Modern Emulsion. Fully washable. Low VOC content. Water-based.

Full Gloss
Full Gloss is a high-gloss, water-based paint for interior and exterior use. It is extremely robust and suitable for all untreated and previously treated wood and metal surfaces. Fully washable. Low VOC content. Water-based.

Drying time: Surface dry in 2-3 hours, firmness overnight. Dark colours may take longer to dry. Before closing newly painted windows and doors, ensure that the surface is fully cured. A second coat is possible after at least 4 hours drying time.

Dead Flat
Dead Flat (paint, matt) is a water-based paint with an extremely matt finish for interior use. It is suitable for use on woodwork, plaster and metal surfaces indoors when an extremely matt and elegant finish is required. Not suitable for use in kitchens, bathrooms, on furniture subject to high wear or heavy use. Fully washable. Low VOC content. Water based.

Modern Eggshell
Modern Eggshell is a semi-gloss floor paint for wood and concrete floors for interior use only. Fully washable. Low VOC content. Water-based.
Yield: up to 60 square metres per 5 litres
Drying time: Surface dry in 1-2 hours, firmness overnight. Dark colours may take longer to dry. Wait 24 hours before normal use and 14 days before frequent foot traffic. Can be recoated after at least 5 hours drying time.
Gloss level: 40%
Casein Distemper
Casein Distemper (distemper with casein) is a matt distemper for plastered ceilings and walls as well as plaster walls in interior areas. It is water-based and particularly breathable with excellent coverage. This is a traditional colour quality that requires a certain amount of specialist knowledge despite its ease of application. Minimal VOC content. Water-based. Can be carefully wiped off.
Please read the technical data sheet carefully beforehand and note that we produce your colour shade to order and it is therefore excluded from returns.Only the light colours are available in this quality!

Limewash
Limewash (lime whitewash) is a water-dilutable special paint for interior and exterior walls and ceilings. For use on limestone, lime plaster and plasterwork as well as rough and fine plaster. The surface to be painted must be porous. Farrow & Ball Limewash creates a powdery matt surface with excellent colour depth, which becomes more mature over time. It works with the substrate to allow moisture to escape through evaporation, preventing potential texture problems. As this is a specialised product, we suggest that you seek the advice of a professional before use.
Yield: depends strongly on the conditions, approx. 6-8 square metres per litre.
Drying time: 2-3 hours, depending on the porosity of the surface; allow at least 12 hours under good conditions, preferably overnight, for the respective layer to dry out.
Gloss level: 2%
Soft Distemper
Soft Distemper (distemper) is a water-soluble speciality paint for ceilings and fine interior stucco work. This simple traditional distemper is bound with natural resins, resulting in a matt and powdery finish that allows ceilings to breathe and is used on fine stucco to emphasise detail. No primer is required. Please note: Due to the traditional nature of this colour, Farrow & Ball Soft Distemper will not accept subsequent coats of modern colours.
Yield: up to 65 square metres per 5 litres, depending on the thickness of the application and the porosity of the surface
Drying time: Surface dry after 1-2 hours, firmness overnight. One coat is often sufficient for a good texture.
Gloss level: 2%
Exterior Eggshell
Exterior Eggshell (classic exterior paint) is a low-odour and durable water-based paint for all exterior wood and metal surfaces. It has good water-repellent properties, making it suitable for use on doors, window frames, ship's planks and all stone, brick and metal surfaces. Minimal VOC content. Can be completely wiped off.

Exterior Masonry
Exterior Masonry is a matt, water-based façade paint for all exterior masonry surfaces. For the protection of all exterior surfaces such as masonry, cement, stone, brick, block, roughcast and substrate. This matt, durable paint protects against extreme weather conditions, bacterial infestation and is resistant to dirt and mould. Farrow & Ball recommends that expert advice is sought beforehand for the correct treatment of substrates.
