Wall colors in the living room - a mirror of your soul

Wall color in the living room

Mood maker! The underestimated power of the right color.

Colors can relax, calm or overwhelm, harmonize and inspire, promote creativity, concentration and the joy of working, influence mood and change the perception of space. When choosing a wall color, it is therefore about much more than just your individual favorite color, and because walls are usually very large, the decision for the right color is all the more important. When selecting the optimal colors for your living room In addition to the size, lighting conditions, floor color and texture, the existing furniture and decoration as well as - very importantly - the primary use of the room should be the focus of your considerations. Because the living room is usually the center and also the most public space in your own four walls - regardless of whether you spend time together here as a family, spend time with friends or want to relax alone.

The right choice of color transforms this important room into your personal retreat, expresses your personality and influences the mood of residents and guests. For the perfect color decision, it is therefore of great importance what atmosphere you want to create in the room. Whether light or dark, colorful, pastel, gray, earthy or bright: each color family creates a different effect and we look forward to working with you to design your ideal living and feel-good room.

Multifunctional! The living room is usually much more.

Especially in large cities like Berlin, the tense housing market makes it increasingly rare for a room to be available exclusively as a living room. More and more often, customers visit us who want to optimally design a versatile, multifunctional room. Because it is commonplace that the living room is now a multifunctional room that also functions as a home office, dining room, playroom, guest room and sometimes even as a bedroom. The modern, open floor plans in apartments and houses do the rest to blur once clearly definable room usage definitions.

For us as color consultants and interior designers, this development is an exciting challenge that leaves a lot of room for creativity. Because the right color concept can divide the living room into its functions and still make it appear as a harmonious whole. It is important to work tone-on-tone so that the perception of the room is not disturbed by too many stops and interruptions.

Axes of sight! Watch out.

Just as small apartments with multi-purpose rooms need special design, the color design of a spacious living environment also requires special attention. If the floor plan is open, the kitchen, dining and living room usually merge into one another and can still be perceived as separate functional areas through the right furnishings and choice of colors. The situation is different in the old-style apartments that are typical and very popular in Berlin. The prestigious rooms are usually connected by large double doors, which creates great visual axes. The aim here is to make the views through the right color concept exciting and yet harmonious. If this succeeds, the wow effect is guaranteed.

A Berlin specialty: The Berlin room

As a traditional Berlin company, we do not want to ignore a special feature of Berlin housing construction from the middle of the 19th century: the Berlin room. Due to the densification of urban space and the increasing need for larger apartments and more living space, the front buildings were connected to the side wing and the side wings to the commercial buildings in the courtyard, so that the Berlin room was created as an articulated space at the corners.

The floor plan of this room, which is usually around 30 square meters in size, is always similar: elongated with a single window facing the courtyard and two or three doors into the adjoining corridors and rooms. This makes the Berlin room very spacious, but due to the predominantly north-east orientation, it is often a rather dark room with cool light, the optimal design of which is very demanding. While the Berlin room used to generally serve as a reception room, dining room, music room or library, today it is primarily used as a kitchen-living room or multifunctional room. With the right colors, the knowledge of the interaction of specific color pigments with light and the targeted use of different light sources, this difficult room can be turned into a charming place with a special quality of life and living. Don't leave your Berlin room to chance, but to our color competence.
